Part of the Mayo Dark Sky Festival. Derek Dempsey, founder of Newport Astronomy Club, leads an hour of stargazing at Burrishoole Abbey, with a guided tour of the sky and a chance to see Saturn and Albireo through a telescope. Weather permitting, so check the festival website before you travel. Free, no booking needed, and child-friendly. The abbey is 3km from Newport on the N59 towards Mulranny.
